Why The aurum?

Tirelessly experimenting, alchemists in the past believed that they could make gold. In present times, The Aurum symbolizes the “gold” that chemists/biochemists are after, whatever that may be at present. Mainly, it is about the pursuit of a generation of scientists/chemists/biochemists in the modern times, on everything, with a scientific point of view.

Aurum is the Latin for gold. Specifically, it means shining dawn. Thus, the newsletter aims to bring to light information that has been disregarded due to scientific jargon or misinformation. It represents the newsletter’s commitment to presenting comprehensible and relevant information from a vast sea of current events. It also aims to bring to light the various unknown sides of science, both local and international, that may have been overlooked in light of other more popular scientific views.

ABOUT THE LOGO

As a newsletter for the UP Biochemistry Society, The Aurum logo emphasizes on Aurum being an element. Just like Aurum, the newsletter is an element, a part of an organization that is keyed to sharing accurate information to the masses, encouraging various perspectives to science. The "Au" in the logo is highlighted, representing how the newsletter commits itself to the comprehensible and relevant information from a vast sea of current events.

The main part of the logo is the element, showing the chemistry portion of biochemistry. However, the biology part must not be forgotten. Thus, the DNA intertwines around the element, integrating Biology as another component of the newsletter.
