BCS echoes calls for donation for typhoon-hit Philippines

After three consecutive strong typhoons namely Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses, Filipinos are currently lost as to which disaster to focus on first: the ongoing pandemic, recovery from the aforementioned typhoons, or preparation for possibly three more typhoons that will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility before the year ends.

With that said, various groups in the country have spearheaded donation drives to aid the victims of the typhoons especially in places most affected such as Catanduanes and Tiwi in Region V and Cagayan and Isabela in Region II.

In total, the three typhoons wreaked havoc to the country’s agricultural sector with damages totalling to over 12B nationwide. Meanwhile, over 350 000 Filipinos nationwide have been forced to vacate their homes due to the most recent typhoon that caused heavy flooding especially in Region II. Others, on the other hand, are expected to live with limited to no access to electricity, stable signal, and resources for up to two months due to the economic and commercial damages brought about by the three typhoons.

To amplify the reach of various fundraisers, UP BCS compiled a list of legitimate donation drives which people could check out in order to help the people in need assistance. These donation drives are spearheaded by non-profit and college organizations and have been checked for legitimacy given the growing number of fake donation drives put up by scammers.

The fundraisers indicated in the Twitter thread accept both monetary and in-kind donations where details about the donation channels as well as their drop-off points are indicated in their respective publicity materials. Apart from donations, a share or retweet of the calls for donation will also help reach more people.
